On behalf of NATO, Pieter De Crem, Minister of Defense, has awarded the construction of the new NATO headquarters to BAM Alliance.

The tender amounts to 460 million euro.

The new NATO headquarters will be built just across the present headquarters on a site of almost 40 hectares. The works will start at the beginning of October 2010 and will last until half 2015.

The new headquarter has a surface area of 250 000 m². Next to their offices (120 000 m²), the 4 500 staff members have at their disposal a conference center, communication and catering facilities and a personnel center. Some other facilities are a technical building for energy supplies, warehouses and workshops. While conceiving the building architects paid special attention to the following aspects : safety, flexibility, sustainability, functionality and cost control.
